Arn’t they asking for their democratic rights to have religious elections within the Mosques with out government interferance? I am sure the majority of them are just seeking that but if the going get longer, infiltrated by foreign extremist elements some of them might be provoked in to demanding the establishment of a muslim State with sharia law and through that committ suicide. The authoritarian government needs to negotiate terms and conditions and allow them to have their democratic election rights before the whole issue runs out of control. If what begun as good democratic demand developes into an authoritarian extremist out come every one will be losers just like the ongoing Syrian violence with no end in sight. And the still medieval middle east has always been the souce of endless violences and complete insecurities to limbs and lives.
Most of your comments are more general, full of paranoiac, and of the sentimental that advice the ruling party to strengthen the control. What you might have to observe is the deflection of the tide of freedom seeking over all the world has got its momentum. Your advice sound like to quash the force of freedom question. Your approach might look diplomatic, but who do you think first infringe in the right of religion? By the way you reminded me one thing the religion role in politics, if the other religion involve in political decision, then considering the proportion of the Muslim’s in the country, why not the Muslims’ political right has not to be respected? You have to know also that these people are not going to beg anybody for their right, but they already started to act. And people like you are filled with fear and shock because it was unexpected? Therefore, sometimes expect the unexpected

Ethiopia should resolve this soon or the situation will go further. Muslims have no rights in Ethiopia for long time. They are not even allowed to build mosques in Aksum. As citizens they have the right to have a mosque anywhere they choose.
There needs to be democratic religious equality but I am not interested in politics based on religion. Even in the US and other western countries protestenism may be the religion of the majority but that does not mean that there are religious parties dictating the society. We want multiparty democracy with pluralistic diverse values. It is there were prosecuted muslims by other muslims are taking refuge in large numbers even currently.
I have been following the Muslim demonstration for more than may be three months. It looks like they are asking a legitimate question. Nothing more. What I also see is it is the government who seem to have some hidden agenda. Now and then they were saying “listen to our voice” . What is the problem.
The government as a head all people in the country should listen to them find a common ground. If the gov do not have no interest on that so what ales. What are they doing in the palace. Let somebody who is able and who can see all the peole in the same eye. Here pointing fingers doesn’t help to no one.
A legitimate human right requests should get appropriate respond. Otherwise I am telling you the smell doesn’t loll right.
Mishandling of this issue by the Ethiopian government can lead to unrest not only in Ethiopia but in the entire region. Historically speaking when public demand is not properly answered more participation born and lead to the issue to a major issue. The government failure to answer this question for the past 8 months is already inviting outsiders to involve where ETV is taken off of the Arab Satellite for now, then the Muslim countries will be followed by Western countries in recalling their diplomats. This very easy and simple issue should not be a big deal to the so called government to resolve it in a timely manner however the magic word “Terrorists” is what the government attempted to use against peaceful demonstrators all at cost of the USA and Britain to control further growth of Islam in the world, neither one of them will succeed doing so, for Ethiopians religion is first, regardless of which religion it is, almost every Ethiopian Muslims demonstration is backed by millions who are none Muslims, Ethiopian Orthodox church have declared that the issue need to be resolved without further dues. When smoking gun couldn’t STOP TPLF from their criminal acts against humanity the public riot started eight months a go, the riot is fully supported by majority Ethiopians regardless of religion difference, there was not much changed for Ethiopian Muslims in history, but this time it seems it is end of it.
They are trying to reengineer Islam so that they control every 5 household as they did it for the last 21 years. Revolutionary Democracy failed to control Muslims as they managed to control Christians through their political appointee, the late Abba Paulos of the TPLF. Poor minority is in real trouble now.
